When I was finishing up Marilyn Monroe’s portrait

I was doing this portrait of Marilyn Monroe for a customer of mine. It was a wedding gift for his Wife. I did it on a 5 by 4 foot canvas with mix media.
The first thing I do is I put out an intention on how I want the person or animal to come out. I like to capture their true essence. For this one I wasnt sure what it was. I was looking up many pictures of her and watching scenes from her movies. This helped me to capture her better. Sometimes I get sad when I learn about who I am doing a portrait of.
For this portait I used mix media. I start out putting gesso white acrylic on the entire canvas. I do about 3 coats. This allows me to put pencil on the canvas. It is also good so you can use water color on a canvas, I drew in Mailyn Monroe. I added skin color with a pencil but to spread it in right I would wipe it in and I also used gesso. I went lite with gesso otherwise it would be to white. On some areas instead of using penciI I would use dry oil to add skin tone. I would a put a little black oil paint on a brush and wipe it off on a paper towel. There will only be dry paint left on the brush. For her dress, shoes and earings I used white acrylic.
If you are intersted in having me do a portrait of someone or pet you can call me at 631 592 1513. You can order it here at www.jbellarts.com or email me at Salvatore@jbellarts.com. A 11 x 14 will be $250. I would need a clear picture of who you want a portrait of emailed to me. The clearer the better so I can capture them and get great detail. I also can do larger sizes on canvas. I can also do 2 or more people together. I can also do celebrities. For a price other than a 11 by 14 email or call me and I will give you a quote.
